In 2011, export value of Vietnamese pangasius to Japan reached 2.56 million USD, accounting for 0.14% of total pangasius exports. Seven or eight years later, it ninefold and twelvefold increased in 2017 and 2018 respectively as compared to 2011.

Shrimp exports rebounded and grew 21.3 percent as of August over the same period last year, to USD 2.3 billion, thanks to a rise in demand from key import market.

In 2018, Vietnamese pangasius exports to ten CPTPP countries were worth 328.4 million USD, up 17.3% as compared to the previous year. Exports to most countries grew, except for Mexico down 4.65% and Peru 19.6%.
